The NCI Board

Nick took over as Chairman of NCI in November 2019. Nick is an experienced global equity investor and has invested in Asian stocks since 2000, joining Dalton Strategic Partnership in 2010 and is the Chairman of the Board of Dalton Strategic Partnership LLP. Nick was a founder and managing partner and a global equity portfolio manager at Origin Asset Management LLP, and as the Head of Equities at Investec Asset Management Limited he was responsible for managing the London equity team and global equity portfolios, and on his arrival he originated the 4Factor™ process. Before joining Investec in 2000, he was a Director of Schroder Investment Management Limited and the Global Head of Research, responsible for over 100 equity analysts around the world. Nick also managed equity funds for Schroders, after joining the company as an investment analyst in 1990. Nick is a Chartered Accountant and has a degree in English and American literature from the University of Kent at Canterbury.

Jamie had over 20 years’ experience in the asset management industry across a variety of disciplines. Jamie spent fifteen years in his prior role as Partner at Oldfield Partners, where he was initially Head of Operations, then went on to become Head of Business Development and Client Servicing, and for the last seven years was Chief Executive Officer. Previously, Jamie was a Product Specialist for the Global Equity and Emerging Market Equity teams at Merrill Lynch Investment Managers. Jamie holds a BSc Hons in Economics from Loughborough University and obtained his MBA from the University of Cambridge. In 2021, Jamie joined Longview Partners as COO. Jamie was Chairman of NCI between 2017-2019

Dominic founded Somerset Capital Management in 2007 and is the firm’s Chief Executive Officer and Director of Marketing. Somerset Capital Management LLP is an employee-owned Global Emerging Markets, specialist fund management firm. Dominic was Chairman of NCI from 2015 until 2017. Dominic has spent the last 14 years raising capital for various institutions in Asia, the USA and the UK starting with Robert Flemings in London in 1995 and Jardine Fleming in 1998. From 2001-2007 Dominic, with Jacob Rees-Mogg and Edward Robertson, built Lloyd George Management from $1.5bn under management to $16bn when he left in April 2007. Dominic graduated from Durham University in 1995.

Daniel has considerable experience in wealth management and merchant banking, having advised some of Europe’s most prominent families and industrialists for over 20 years. Formerly Senior Banker at UBS Warburg in London and Paris concentrating on mergers and acquisitions, he was a member of the firm’s executive committee in France. He was also Chief Executive of a private equity fund backed by CVC Capital Partners. Daniel sits on several prominent boards and investment committees and regularly contributes economic and financial editorials to leading newspapers. He is the author of 'Capital Wars', a book published in early 2014. He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MA in Economics from Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris and an MSc in Finance from Universite Paris-Dauphine.

Susannah has over eleven years industry experience; latterly as CEO of S. W. Mitchell Capital, a European equities boutique. Prior to this she was COO and Head of Business Development at the same firm. Susannah started her career in 2008 at Citywire Financial Publishers where she was responsible for the commercial aspects of their UK fund manager ratings business and external research. Susannah has a degree in Politics from the University of Edinburgh. Susannah has been a Deputy Chairperson of New City Initiative since 2016.

Freddie worked at Odey Asset Management for six years prior to founding Latitude Investment Management in 2016. At Odey his primary focus was managing a multi asset fund, focussing on fundamental stock selection and asset allocation. Prior to joining Odey Freddie spent two years at NM Rothschild where he was a portfolio manager and, prior to that, he worked at Goldman Sachs for three years as an analyst. Freddie holds a MA in Maths from Oxford University (St Edmund Hall) and is a CFA Charterholder.

Sebastian graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a First Class degree in Mathematics and Business Studies. He joined Somerset Capital Management LLP in 2012. He is an Associate Partner and Head of Client Services and helped build Somerset Capital from $1.8bn to over $10bn in AUM. Sebastian is a CFA charterholder and became a Director of the New City Initiative in 2017.

James Lloyd, has been Director of Marketing and Business Development at Mayfair Capital since September 2009. James is an Executive Director and responsible for all aspects of Mayfair Capital's marketing and business development, including raising funds across its portfolios, investor relations with current clients, while developing further relationships with new investors in the charity, professional investor and institutional markets. Prior to this James worked for St Vincent Capital, a boutique property investment company, having previously worked for 12 years running a leading West End art gallery, which followed the completion of a Short Service Commission in HM Armed Forces.

Toby Illingworth joined NCI in 2013 and as the project Co-ordinator. He became the Executive Director in 2015 and is responsible for running NCI’s day-to-day operations and managing our overall strategy. Previously he worked at Glyndebourne Opera House and has also spent a number of years working in politics. In addition to his work at NCI, Toby is a serving District Councillor in Sussex and a Partner of The Channel Group, a think tank championing free trade internationally.

Simon has been CEO of Findlay Park since 2016. He is a member of the American Fund Investment Committee. Previously Simon spent nineteen years at Newton Investment Management, initially as a global banks analyst, then as Head of Global Research, Head of Private Clients and Charities and finally as Chief Investment Officer.

Charles joined Waverton in June 2016 as Head of Funds following the acquisition of 2CG Senhouse where he was a Director having co-founded Senhouse Capital in 2008. Prior to this he was Head of Sales and director at Bedlam Asset Management. He started his career on the sell side for Salomon Brothers (1995-6), ABN AMRO (1996-9) and CLSA Emerging Markets (1999-2002) based variously in Southeast Asia, South America and London. Charles graduated from the University of Newcastle with a degree in History in 1994.

Algernon Percy graduated from Christ Church, Oxford, in 1990 with a degree in History.   He has since written a book about the Crimean War.  He worked in the Private Client department of Mercury Asset Management (later Merrill Lynch Investment Managers) for nine years, before joining Waverton (then J O Hambro Investment Management) in 2003. He became Head of Private Clients, and then in 2013 was appointed Managing Director.  He manages the Waverton Portfolio Fund.

Charles Gubert is the Head of Regulation at NCI. He is founder of GTL Associates, a research, copy-writing and marketing consultancy to financial services institutions, and a contributing editor at Global Custodian Magazine. Prior to this, he was a research manager at Thomas Murray IDS, a consultancy and editor at COOConnect, an online title aimed at chief operating officers at alternative and long-only fund managers. He started his career as a reporter at Risk Magazine and Hedge Funds Review.
